| Tsuguhira was originally from Echizen Province and studied under the third-generation Yasutsugu of Echizen. He later moved to Edo, and the Tsuguhira lineage continued for six generations until the end of the Edo period. This Ōmi no Kami Tsuguhira is the fourth-generation smith, and the tang is dated 1767. Swords bearing his distinctive cursive signature are known from the Hōreki through Tenmei eras (1753–1785). This wakizashi is forged in shinogi-zukuri with an ō-kissaki, featuring a wide mihaba, substantial kasane, and a bold, powerful appearance. The jihada is a slightly standing ko-itame with yubashiri, covered with ji-nie and interspersed with chikei. The hamon is a nie-deki gunome-midare with abundant sunagashi and prominent nie-suji. The ubu tang is in excellent condition and bears a graceful cursive signature. The sword is mounted in a period koshirae with a black ishime-lacquered saya. It has passed the NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa in 2025. |
